George P. MacNichol House, Victorian residence in Wyandotte, United States.

Description

The George P. MacNichol House is a substantial residence built around 1900 that showcases Queen Anne architectural style with its ornate exterior details. Inside, 32 rooms, six fireplaces, and numerous doors and windows are distributed across approximately 6600 square feet of living space.

History

Edward Ford commissioned the house in 1896 as a wedding gift for his daughter Laura when she married a medical doctor. The property was eventually purchased by the city of Wyandotte and is now listed among historic buildings in the area.

Culture

The residence displays signature Queen Anne architectural details including steeply pitched roofs, gables, and a corner turret topped with a conical roof. The wraparound porch with Tuscan columns creates an inviting outdoor space that defines its street presence.

Practical

The residence is located on Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte and stands out visually due to its prominent turret and wraparound porch. Since it is a historic property, it is best to check beforehand about visiting hours and access conditions before planning a visit.

Did you know?

The house combines decorative shingles on its gable ends and turret with clapboard siding on most other surfaces, creating an interesting material contrast. This blend of different surface treatments is a subtle but distinctive feature of how the structure was built.
