Moses Brown House, Historic house in Eldersburg, Maryland

The Moses Brown House is a residential structure in Eldersburg, Maryland, that shows two different building phases. The original log section was later extended with a stone addition that substantially altered the overall form.

The structure was built around 1785 as a simple log dwelling and received a stone extension in 1814. This expansion reflected growing prosperity and changing construction methods in the region.

The house shows how early settlers in Maryland lived and what building materials were available to them. The mix of log and stone construction reveals much about the craftsmanship and daily life of people during that era.

The house is located on Ridge Road in Eldersburg and can be viewed from the outside. Visitors should remember this is a private residence, so respect for the occupants' privacy is important.

The original log construction looks quite different from the later stone building when you view both sides of the structure. These differences let you observe the craftsmanship improvements of an entire generation.
