Nesbitt Reservoir, body of water
Nesbitt Reservoir is a large body of water in northeastern Pennsylvania, located along Pennsylvania Route 502 in Spring Brook Township. It is fed by Spring Brook, a stream that collects water from nine smaller tributaries and holds about 1.3 billion gallons, surrounded by forests and open land.
The reservoir was built many years ago to provide clean drinking water to about 75,000 people in the region. Around 2012, major repairs and upgrades to the dam were completed, with over 27 million dollars invested to improve the facility and ensure water safety.
The reservoir plays a central role in the daily lives of local residents as a reliable water supply. The area is valued by both locals and visitors not just for its practical function, but also as part of the natural landscape where they live and hold memories of outdoor activities.
Parking is available along Route 502 just south of the bridge where the road crosses the water, though there are no official parking spots, so visitors must find wide spaces along the roadside. It is important to stay on designated trails and respect private property, as trespassing can result in fines or citations.
The area is known for Rattlesnake Falls, a waterfall about 40 to 50 feet high located roughly half a mile from the reservoir and surrounded by a narrow gorge. This hidden natural feature is often overlooked by visitors, but it offers a quiet spot for photography and reflection accessible through a gentle forest walk.
