The garden apartment complex opened in 1949 as part of the Rochester Plan, providing housing for veterans returning from World War II and their families.
The district buildings reflect the vernacular Colonial Revival architectural style, featuring symmetrical designs and traditional American construction elements.
Each of the 144 buildings contains two residential units, resulting in a total of 288 apartments within the district boundaries.
The district includes dedicated community and recreation centers that serve the residential population of this post-war housing development.
