Ohio Softball Field is a sports facility in Athens with a natural grass playing surface and standard softball diamond layout. The field spans approximately 200 feet (61 m) to left field, 220 feet (67 m) to center, and 200 feet (61 m) to right field, with bullpen areas positioned behind the dugouts for both teams.
The facility opened on April 2, 1999, when Ohio University played its inaugural games against Miami University. Subsequent improvements included the addition of a digital scoreboard in 2003 and major renovations in 2017 that upgraded the press box and spectator amenities.
The field is home to Ohio University's women's softball program and hosts games throughout the year that draw students and local fans. You can experience the energy of student sports culture when events take place here.
The facility is located at 150 South Shafer Street in Athens and is reasonably accessible by car or local transportation. It operates primarily as a college sports venue, so visiting during the regular season gives you the best chance to see the field in use with games and spectators present.
The field features a Daktronics digital scoreboard that has been part of the facility since 2003. This display system allows spectators to follow the action clearly regardless of where they are seated around the diamond.
