Orson Everitt House
Orson Everitt House, Queen Anne residence in Livonia, Michigan.
The Orson Everitt House is a wooden residence in Queen Anne style in Livonia with distinctive architectural details. Its facade features clapboard siding, a broad porch with turned balusters, multiple dormers under a hipped roof, a prominent circular turret with conical roof, and original multi-colored exterior paint.
Marshall Everitt established the property in 1830, and his grandson Orson built the current house in 1899 using designs from Herbert C. Chivers' pattern book. The project was part of early residential growth in Livonia during the suburban building boom in the Detroit region.
The house shows how successful families near Detroit wanted to live around 1900 and what architectural ideas were fashionable then. The detailed decorations and elaborate construction reflect the wealth that such suburban homes represented.
The house is located on West Seven Mile Road and currently houses an engineering company, so visitor access may be limited. It is best to check the current use before visiting if you want to admire the exterior architecture from the street.
The house was built using designs from a published pattern book by a renowned architect, showing how such templates helped wealthy builders create modern homes. This practice made Queen Anne architecture accessible even to families far from major cities.
