Prater's Mill, Historic mill and heritage site in Dalton, United States

The water-powered mill stretches along Coahulla Creek, featuring original grain cleaning equipment, grinding machinery, and traditional sifting mechanisms from 1855.

Benjamin Franklin Prater constructed this industrial complex, which served as a strategic campsite for both Union and Confederate forces during the Civil War.

The mill grounds host an annual country fair in October, presenting mountain music performances, traditional Southern food preparation, and living history exhibitions.

Visitors can explore the restored mill structure, attend craft demonstrations, fish in Coahulla Creek, and participate in community gatherings throughout the year.

The mill complex expanded beyond grain processing to include a cotton gin, saw mill, wool carder, syrup mill, general store, and blacksmith shop.
