Quarters 1, Military residence in Arlington, Virginia

Quarters 1 stands as a Victorian brick structure with 21 rooms, spanning 10,000 square feet, featuring a front porch with paired round columns and spindled balustrades.

Built in 1899, this residence has served as the home for Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army since 1910, including General Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1945 to 1948.

The residence maintains its original interior configuration and architectural elements, representing the official living quarters of high-ranking military leaders throughout the 20th century.

The building sits on the grounds of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, offering views of the Potomac River and Washington DC from its strategic position.

Frances Benjamin Johnston documented this structure through photographs between 1930 and 1939, creating an important visual record preserved in the Library of Congress.
