Lyon Park Historic District, Historic residential district in Arlington County, Virginia.
Lyon Park Historic District is a residential neighborhood in northern Arlington County filled with homes built between the First and Second World Wars. The houses line tree-covered streets and feature Colonial Revival architecture as their dominant style.
Frank Lyon founded this residential development in 1919 by subdividing 300 acres into 1,200 building lots. This expansion marked the beginning of suburban growth in the area.
The neighborhood contains the largest collection of Colonial Revival architecture in Arlington County, with houses built between the First and Second World Wars.
The neighborhood is easy to reach by public transportation, especially via the Clarendon Metro Station and several bus lines. Visitors can walk through wide, shaded streets that are pleasant to explore on foot.
The streets follow a thoughtfully designed layout with straight sections and curved portions in the center, created by planner William Sunderman. This pattern sets it apart from the typical rectangular grids found in other suburbs.
