Lee Gardens North Historic District, Historic residential district in Arlington County, United States
Lee Gardens North Historic District is a residential complex of about 30 attached masonry structures forming seven buildings spread across roughly 14.5 acres. The buildings are arranged in a planned layout with shared green spaces between the structures.
The garden apartment complex was designed by architect Mihran Mesrobian and completed in 1950 following post-World War II housing standards. The development was built during a period of suburban expansion when such housing developments became common in American suburbs.
The buildings display Colonial Revival architecture blended with Art Deco and Moderne style elements that reflect mid-20th century suburban living preferences. These design features remain visible in the facades and entrances you see when walking through the district.
The complex is located along North 11th Street and can be explored on foot, as the buildings are arranged around shared courtyards and pathways. The best way to see the architecture is through a leisurely walk around the property to observe the details of the brick facades.
Each building in the complex displays its own brick patterns, showing how construction techniques varied during the building process. These crafted details make each section visually distinct and document the hands-on building practices of that era.
