Rabideau CCC Camp, Conservation corps camp in Taylor Township, United States.
Rabideau CCC Camp is a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Taylor Township with thirteen preserved buildings across approximately 19 acres. The site includes a mess hall, barracks, officers' quarters, recreation hall, hospital, and classroom spaces that document camp operations.
The camp was built in 1935 during the Great Depression and employed roughly 300 young men who worked on road construction and forest management in Chippewa National Forest. After the war, the University of Illinois used the buildings from 1946 through 1972 for teaching and study programs.
The name comes from the Rabideau family who lived in this area. Visitors can see how the different buildings reflect the daily routines and community life of the young men who worked and stayed here.
The grounds can be explored through guided or self-guided tours organized by the US Forest Service. Visitors should prepare for variable weather and allow sufficient time to see all the buildings spread across the large property.
The site now operates as Rabideau Conservation Academy and Learning Center, offering educational programs specifically for youth from Cass and Beltrami Counties. This ongoing educational mission connects the camp's original work focus with modern conservation goals.
