Riverdale Presbyterian Church Complex, Gothic Revival religious complex in Riverdale neighborhood, The Bronx, United States.
Riverdale Presbyterian Church Complex is a Gothic Revival religious facility located at 4761 Henry Hudson Parkway in the Bronx. The property includes the main stone church with pointed arches and a mansard roof, the Duff House residence, and a Stick Style cottage that housed the groundskeeper.
Designer James Renwick Jr. built the original church between 1863 and 1864. Major expansion work took place in 1936 to accommodate the growing congregation and community needs of the area.
The name reflects the Presbyterian faith that shaped this neighborhood during the late 1800s. Walking through the grounds, you can observe how the stone buildings and landscape were arranged to serve as a gathering place for worship and community life.
You can reach the property by entering from the Henry Hudson Parkway, where regular services and community events take place. The grounds are best explored on foot to take in the architectural details of each building and the layout of the complex.
This complex founded a satellite chapel called Edgehill Church at Spuyten Duyvil in 1869. That chapel later grew into its own independent parish with its own congregation and identity.
