The Robert Colgate House features ashlar Maine granite construction, a low-pitched dormered roof, and broad eaves surrounding a flat deck at 5225 Sycamore Avenue.

Built in 1860 for Robert Colgate, son of soap manufacturer William Colgate, this residence gained National Register of Historic Places recognition in 1983.

The house played a central role in community development when the Riverdale Presbyterian Church organized its first meeting there in 1863.
