Ringwood State Park, State park in Passaic County, New Jersey

Ringwood State Park is a protected area in Passaic County comprising dense woodlands, mountain ridges, and Shepherd Lake spread across 4,000 acres. A network of marked trails connects different sections, allowing visitors to move between forested areas and water features throughout the grounds.

The land served as an iron production center starting in the 18th century with mining operations that supplied materials during the American Revolution. After mining ended, the landscape transitioned into a recreational area that eventually gained protected status.

Ringwood Manor displays rooms from different periods that show how affluent families lived and worked in New Jersey's history. The furnishings and architectural choices throughout the house reflect the tastes and lives of people across generations.

Shepherd Lake opens for swimming, fishing, and boating from late May through early September and requires an entry permit for water activities. Trails remain accessible year-round and accommodate different fitness levels for hikers.

The grounds contain more than 15 miles of marked trails cutting through glacial terrain featuring rock formations shaped by the last ice age. These geological features visibly demonstrate how powerful ancient glaciers carved and shaped the landscape.
