Rocky Point Amusement Park, Former amusement park in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Rocky Point Amusement Park is a former entertainment complex along the Narragansett Bay shoreline in Warwick, Rhode Island, now accessible as a public park. The site includes a reconstructed pier overlooking the water and remnants of old rides and structures scattered among trees and coastal vegetation.
A sea captain opened a dinner venue with entertainment here in the 1840s, which expanded over the following decades into the largest amusement facility in the state. The operation closed in 1995 after more than 150 years and the land later became a public park.
This former entertainment site takes its name from the rocky coastline formations and served as a traditional gathering spot for Rhode Island families over many generations. Informational panels throughout the grounds now display photographs of visitors who once dined on seafood and walked along the waterfront boardwalk.
Two parking areas provide access to the grounds, and leashed dogs are allowed throughout. Informational signs with historical photographs appear at several points along the paths and waterfront.
An A-shaped archway originally constructed for the 1964 World's Fair still stands on the grounds after being relocated here. Near the shore, foundations of a large saltwater pool and rusty rails from a former roller coaster track remain visible among the landscape.
