Savage Mill

Savage Mill is a complex of buildings constructed between 1822 and 1916 that combines original industrial architecture with modern shopping spaces. The site blends historic structures with contemporary retail and dining in a renovated setting.

The Savage Manufacturing Company began operations in 1810 and focused on producing cotton duck fabric for maritime sails. The enterprise became a major supplier of sailcloth to shipping industries across the country.

The site reflects Maryland's industrial past through its preserved machinery and architectural details from the textile era. Visitors can understand how the mill shaped the local community and economy through what remains visible today.

The mill is located on Foundry Street with free parking available throughout the grounds. Guided tours can be arranged for smaller groups to explore the buildings and learn more about the site.

The property contains the only surviving Bollman Truss Bridge, which was moved to the mill's rail spur in the 1870s. This rare railroad bridge is a notable example of the engineering practices from that era.
