Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Historic golf course in Southampton, United States.
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is a historic golf club in Southampton, New York, with a bungalow-style course set on gentle hills near the Atlantic coast. Natural landforms, rolling greens, and strategically placed bunkers shape the layout on this undulating terrain.
The club was founded in 1891 and belonged to the five founding members of the American golf governing body. Later, the course was selected multiple times for national championships and gained international recognition in the sport.
The club takes its name from a local tribe, and the original layout emerged with support from members of the Shinnecock Nation. Many traditional elements of early golf course construction remain visible in the layout today.
Access to this private club is restricted to members or invited guests. Anyone wishing to play needs a personal invitation from a current member.
This course is the only one to host a national Open tournament in three separate centuries. More than 100 years passed between the first and last of these tournaments.
