South Main and Washington Streets Historic District

The South Main and Washington Streets Historic District in South Norwalk contains commercial and residential buildings dating from the 1800s through early 1900s. The structures display Renaissance Revival, Romanesque Revival, Second Empire, and Italianate design features that are visible throughout the streets.

The area emerged as a trading hub during the 1800s industrial expansion when rail connections linked Norwalk to surrounding towns. The National Register listing arrived in 1977, followed by later additions that included more notable structures in the neighborhood.
