The Allen House

The Allen House is a single-story residential home from the 1950s with clean geometric lines and large expanses of glass. The building displays modern design features including a flat roof and open spatial planning that were common in postwar homes.

The house was designed and built in 1958 by Chicago architect Roy Binkley Jr. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, becoming a recognized example of 20th century American residential design.

The house shows how Westport changed from a quiet countryside village into a prosperous suburb after World War II. It reflects the way new homes and families transformed the local community.

The house is a private residence and can be viewed from the outside. It is easily accessible by car and located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Westport.

This is the only known residential project by Roy Binkley Jr. in the entire Westport area. Its design stands as a rare example of the architect's work outside his hometown of Chicago.
