St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Episcopal church in Colonial Annapolis Historic District, US
St. Anne's Episcopal Church sits at Church Circle and features Romanesque Revival architecture with a stone altar and Tiffany stained glass windows from 1859. The building displays detailed interior appointments and has been maintained through various restoration efforts over time.
The original parish was established in 1692 and underwent several reconstructions before a fire destroyed the previous building in 1858. The current structure rose after this loss to replace what had burned.
The church displays six hundred needlepoint prayer kneelers created by parishioners between 1990 and 2001, reflecting local craft skills and community dedication. These handmade pieces show how members invested their time and talents into the worship space.
Visitors can step inside on weekdays to explore the interior spaces and speak with staff members on site. The building sits centrally in the historic district and is easily reached on foot.
The interior contains a carved walnut reredos by Johannes Kirchmayer depicting Christ with angels, executed with detailed craftsmanship. Stone elements crafted by sculptor William Henry Rinehart further enhance the artistic design throughout the space.
