St. Augustine Catholic Church and Cemetery

St. Augustine Catholic Church is a stone building constructed from fieldstone and located south of State Route 33 in Trenton, Wisconsin. The structure features mortared stone walls throughout and sits adjacent to a cemetery on the property.

Bavarian Catholics established this religious center in 1856 to serve their growing community. Missionary priests conducted services during the early decades before the congregation's needs shifted over time.

The basement served as a teaching space where religious education and language instruction took place together. This reflected how the community preserved both faith and heritage within the same place.

The property is now primarily open for special occasions such as weddings and holiday celebrations. The site sits in a rural setting south of a main road in a quiet area.

A Milwaukee artist named Hans Schmeidl painted a large image of Saint Augustine behind the altar in 1925. This work replaced the plain whitewashed walls and remains part of the interior today.
