St. Norbert Abbey

St. Norbert Abbey is a monastery in De Pere, Wisconsin, situated on expansive grounds east of the Fox River. The complex features limestone buildings enhanced by modern stained glass windows, a pipe organ, and six bells imported from the Netherlands.

The monastery was established in 1893 when Bernard Pennings and two Norbertine priests from Berne Abbey in Holland arrived to build a religious community in northeastern Wisconsin. This foundation laid the groundwork for a presence that would grow and develop over more than a century.
