Old Nicolet High School
Old Nicolet High School, Historic educational building in De Pere, United States.
Old Nicolet High School is a historic brick school building in De Pere featuring distinctive Neo-Classical Revival characteristics. The structure was designed by architects Foeller, Schober, and Stephenson and retains its original appearance with windows, doors, and decorative details from the 1920s.
The building opened in 1923 and initially served as a public school for students in the region. In 1958, the Norbertine order took over the property and renamed it Abbot Pennings High School to operate it as a Catholic educational facility.
This school building held an important place in the community's education for generations and drew students from the surrounding area. The layout and design reflect early 20th-century school traditions, with classrooms and gathering spaces that remain visible today.
The building is visible from the street and sits at a convenient location in De Pere for easy access. It is best to explore the area on foot and admire the architectural details from outside, as it is a privately-owned registered landmark.
The structure earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015, marking recognition of its rare continuity of educational use spanning more than eight decades. This sustained role as a school facility makes it a notable example of institutional persistence in the region.
