Stanford Fire Truck House, Historic fire station at Stanford University, California, United States
Stanford Fire Truck House at 433 Santa Teresa Street is a red brick building with large wooden doors originally designed for emergency vehicle access. The structure spans two floors connected by an elevator, with accessible facilities throughout.
Built in 1904 by Charles Hodges, this facility served as Stanford University's main fire station until the early 1970s, providing emergency protection for the campus. It operated for approximately 70 years before transitioning to its current use.
The building now serves as home to the Women's Community Center and LGBT Community Resource Center, where students find support and educational gatherings. These spaces have become meeting places for community building and peer connection on campus.
The building features power-operated doors, an elevator between floors, and accessible restrooms for visitors. Disabled parking spaces are located on Santa Teresa Street near the entrance.
Student firefighters at this station received room, board, and training as part of their employment. Several of these young workers went on to become fire chiefs in major cities across the country.
