Burnham Pavilion, Sports venue at Stanford University, United States
The Burnham Pavilion is a 1,400-seat arena connected to the Ford Center for Sports and Recreation as part of Stanford University's athletic complex. The structure functions as a multipurpose venue for gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball, and other university sports programs.
The building was constructed between 1921 and 1922 by architects Bakewell and Brown and originally opened as Stanford Pavilion. It received its current name in 1989 to honor a key figure connected to the university.
The pavilion serves as the home venue for the university's gymnastics, wrestling, and volleyball teams throughout the year. Spectators regularly watch student athletes compete and train within its walls.
The main entrance is located on Jane Stanford Way with accessible parking spaces in the adjacent lot. Arrive early for major events since parking fills up quickly during peak times.
When it opened in 1922, this structure was the largest basketball-exclusive arena in the United States. This specialization marked it as a pioneer in building dedicated sports facilities for single sports.
