Taylor Allderdice High School

Taylor Allderdice High School is a public secondary institution in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, covering a campus with neoclassical design elements. The brick facades are complemented by stone details and carved ornamental features that frame the main entrance and upper floors.

The institution opened in 1927 and bears the name of an industrialist who played a major role in the city's business life. Nearly six decades later, the building received recognition on the national register in 1986.

The name honors an entrepreneur who developed streetcar lines and real estate across the region. Students attend classes in different academic departments, while the library and common areas serve as gathering spots for study groups after lessons end.

The campus sits on Shady Avenue in the southeastern part of the city and is accessible on foot from surrounding residential areas. The grounds remain open to visitors on weekdays during the school year, though access is limited outside instructional hours.

Two Nobel Prize winners in economics and chemistry spent their school years here before earning international recognition. Several successful musicians also walked these halls before launching careers in the entertainment industry.
