Neill Log House, Log cabin in Schenley Park, US.
The Neill Log House is an old log cabin in Schenley Park built from wooden logs with notched corners and a fieldstone chimney. The structure shows typical construction techniques from the late colonial period, with thick walls, low ceilings, and traditional openings for windows and doors.
The cabin was built in the late 18th century and is the oldest surviving residential building in Pittsburgh. Robert Neill was the first owner before John Reed later acquired the property.
The house shows how early European settlers lived in this region and built with the materials at hand. The simple rooms and handmade details tell the story of how people furnished their homes in a practical way back then.
The cabin is located in Schenley Park and can be reached on foot via maintained paths. On-site tours explain the old handcraft techniques and offer insights into daily life of the first inhabitants.
Scientists examined a wooden beam above the fireplace and determined exactly when it was cut. This examination confirmed that the building was indeed built in the late 18th century, just as historical records indicated.
