Terre Haute Action Track, Dirt oval race track in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States.
Terre Haute Action Track is a half-mile dirt oval race track located at the Vigo County fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Indiana, next to US Route 41. The track features banked turns and grandstands that offer views of several sections of the circuit at once.
The track opened on June 15, 1952, and has been part of American dirt track racing ever since. It went through ownership changes and brief closures over the decades, but continued operating as a racing venue.
The track is known for hosting USAC sprint car and midget racing events, drawing competitors from across the country to this Indiana fairgrounds setting. On race nights, the grandstands fill with local fans who follow the drivers closely from their seats.
Racing typically runs from spring through fall, with events held on various evenings throughout the season. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and expect dust from the dirt surface, especially if sitting close to the track.
The Hulman Classic, a signature race at this track, is considered one of the first sprint car races ever broadcast on television. That early broadcast helped bring dirt track racing to viewers far beyond the fairgrounds.
