Vassar Chapel, Norman church building at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, US.
Vassar Chapel is a church building constructed from granite and sandstone, featuring a T-shaped design crowned with a tower and divided into five sections by arches. The interior is filled with stained glass windows and was designed specifically to accommodate large gatherings and ceremonies on campus.
The cornerstone was laid in 1902 and construction finished in 1904, replacing a smaller chapel that had occupied the third floor of the Main Building. The new structure was built to meet the expanding needs of the college community.
The chapel has long served as a gathering place for students and visitors of different faiths, hosting both religious observances and secular campus events. It remains a central point where the college community comes together for shared moments throughout the year.
The interior provides seating for roughly 1,300 people and opens to visitors during the academic year. It helps to check ahead for any religious services or campus events scheduled, as these may affect visiting times.
The chapel holds ten stained glass windows created between 1905 and 1909 by renowned artists John La Farge and Louis Comfort Tiffany. These artistic windows are carefully integrated throughout the building's architecture and rank among its most notable features.
