Wartburg College, Lutheran liberal arts college in Waverly, United States
Wartburg College is a Lutheran liberal arts institution in Waverly, rural Iowa, serving more than 1500 undergraduate students. The campus covers 118 acres and includes residence halls, academic buildings, and athletic facilities.
Georg M. Grossmann founded the institution in 1852, which then moved several times between Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa. The school settled permanently in Waverly in 1935 and developed into its current form there.
Students take part in Outfly, a day without classes when they explore the surrounding region on organized trips. This tradition shows how the institution encourages discovering local Iowa communities and breaks up the academic routine.
The institution maintains a ratio of 13 students per faculty member and offers undergraduate programs across different academic departments. Buildings spread across the grounds and are within walking distance of each other.
The sports teams achieved at least one national championship every year for 28 consecutive years, either as a team or through individual athletes. This streak demonstrates sustained athletic performance across different disciplines for nearly three decades.
