Western Maryland Railway 202, Steam locomotive in Hagerstown City Park, United States
Western Maryland Railway 202 is a 4-6-2 Pacific type steam locomotive built in 1912 that features two cylinders and operates with a 200 pounds per square inch boiler pressure. The engine sits in Hagerstown City Park as a static display of early railroad technology.
Baldwin Locomotive Works built this engine in 1912 and it served the Western Maryland Railway carrying passengers for four decades. The locomotive was retired in 1952 and has remained in Hagerstown ever since.
The locomotive represents early 20th-century American railroad engineering and stands as one of two remaining Western Maryland steam engines in existence.
The locomotive sits in a public park where visitors can view it freely from outside. A 2008 restoration improved its appearance, though the engine remains exposed to weather.
Only two Western Maryland steam locomotives survive today, and this is one of them. Recently officials considered moving the engine to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad where it might eventually operate again.
