Hagerstown City Park, Urban park in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Hagerstown City Park is a 50-acre green space with walking paths, a lake, sports fields, playgrounds, and a central bandshell for performances. The grounds feature well-defined areas that accommodate different recreational activities throughout the property.
Hagerstown purchased the land in 1916, and between then and 1921 workers drained a wetland to create the Lower Lake. This transformation shaped the park's character as it exists today.
The park includes cultural institutions like the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Mansion House Art Gallery integrated into its grounds. Visitors encounter local art while strolling through the landscaped areas.
The park has multiple entrances along Virginia Avenue, Key Street, Walnut Street, and Prospect Street providing convenient access. Tennis courts, baseball fields, and picnic areas are reachable from these different entry points.
The grounds include the Hager House Museum, the former home of Jonathan Hager who founded Hagerstown in the 18th century. This historic house offers visitors a glimpse into the city's early beginnings.
