Wills Mountain State Park, State park in Cumberland, Maryland.
Wills Mountain State Park is a state park covering about 470 acres of land on the northwest side of Cumberland, rising above the Cumberland Narrows. The grounds consist of undeveloped forest areas and open spaces where visitors can walk and explore.
The area once attracted wealthy visitors who used a large mansion as a clubhouse starting in 1899. That building remained in operation until 1930 before the region eventually became a natural area under state protection.
The mountain has long served as a place where people come to walk and observe the landscape around them. Today visitors can still experience this quiet setting and connect with the natural surroundings that define the area.
The grounds lack paved paths, parking areas, or buildings, so visitors should wear proper footwear and be prepared for basic navigation. The best way to explore is on foot while expecting a natural experience without modern facilities.
The park grounds continue to grow through active land purchases by the state, meaning new areas are regularly added to explore. This ongoing expansion makes it an evolving place that offers expanded walking routes over time.
