Zachariah Price Dewitt Cabin, Pioneer log cabin in Oxford, United States.
The Zachariah Price DeWitt Cabin is a rectangular log structure with stone foundations and a central chimney located on the Miami University campus. The building was constructed from carefully fitted logs using traditional craftsmanship techniques from the early 1800s.
Built in 1805 by Zachariah Price DeWitt, the cabin documents when families from Kentucky migrated north to settle new land. It was one of the first residential buildings in the area, predating the founding of the town of Oxford and the university.
The cabin shows how early settlers lived in this region and built their homes from wood and stone. Visitors can see how the rooms functioned and what materials were used over 200 years ago.
The cabin can be visited on Sunday afternoons, mainly between May and September when the weather is mild. The DeWitt parking lot on campus offers convenient access to the site for visitors.
The cabin is the oldest standing structure in Oxford Township, built before the town itself was founded. It offers a direct window into life before the modernization and urbanization of the area.
