Paramus Park, shopping mall in Paramus, New Jersey
Paramus Park is a shopping center in Bergen County, New Jersey, with more than 100 shops and several anchor stores including Macy's and Stew Leonard's. The center features wide hallways, clear signage, natural light from skylights, and a distinctive water feature with a waterfall and plantings.
The center opened in 1974 and was among the first shopping malls to feature a food court on an upper level. It was built on land that was formerly wetland and included a water feature that was among the country's first of its kind.
The name Paramus comes from a Lenape word meaning "land of wild turkeys." A bronze turkey statue inside the center honors this heritage and the town's Native American roots.
The center is easy to reach by car, located near Route 17 and the Garden State Parkway with ample parking. Most stores operate Monday through Saturday since Sunday openings are limited due to county regulations, so plan your visit for weekday or Saturday hours.
A carousel that delighted visitors since the 1970s was removed in 2013 after decades of service. Before that time it was a favorite gathering spot for families, especially for children who enjoyed riding the traditional horses.
