Archibald-Vroom House, Historic stone house in Ridgewood, US.
The Archibald-Vroom House is a historic stone building located on East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. Its facade features dressed stone walls and the typical two-story form common to late 18th-century homes in this region.
The building was constructed between 1785 and 1790 and documents the colonial-era stone construction methods. It gained renewed importance when physician William L. Vroom acquired it in 1888 and established a small medical practice there.
The house shows how early settlers built and lived in this area. The stone construction reveals much about the craftsmanship and available materials of that period.
The building is located in the active commercial area and remains visible from the street. Visitors should know that the structure is still in private use and interior access may be limited.
The house is part of a group of early stone buildings in Bergen County that together demonstrate the development of regional architecture. This collection received official recognition as a Multiple Property group.
