Massaro House

Massaro House is a private residence on an island in Lake Mahopac featuring a cantilevered deck extending over the water and 26 triangular skylights built into its structure. The whole building was designed to integrate with its natural surroundings and provides multiple rooms for living and entertaining.

An engineer commissioned a renowned architect to design the house in 1949, but the initial plan could not be fully completed as intended. Instead, a smaller guest cottage was built first that reflected some of those original ideas.

The residence reflects mid-century architectural thinking through its close relationship with the natural surroundings and the geometric forms repeated throughout its design. These triangular shapes and extended deck show how the architect merged practical living spaces with natural beauty.

The house sits on a private island accessible by car, boat, or helicopter depending on your arrival point. Visiting requires advance arrangement and permission, so it's best to contact the owners before planning a trip.

The property was built with a private helipad, an unusual feature for a residential property in this area. Combined with a tea house and private beach, this underscores how the site was designed for exclusive living.
