New York's 27th congressional district, Congressional district in Western New York, United States
New York's 27th congressional district is a federal electoral area in the western part of the state, covering several counties between Buffalo and Rochester. The district runs from built-up neighborhoods with older factory buildings to flat fields, fruit orchards, and small towns scattered along back roads.
The district was established in the early 19th century as settlement expanded westward and new counties were formed. Its boundaries have been redrawn multiple times since then to reflect population shifts after each census.
Local residents participate in town hall meetings and community forums to discuss policies affecting agriculture, manufacturing, and economic development within the district.
Voters can locate their polling stations through the state election board website or by contacting county election offices. Absentee voting is available, and applications must be submitted well before election day.
The district contains sections of the historic Erie Canal, which still links towns along the water route between Lake Erie and the Hudson. Some old locks and canal bridges remain visible along the route.
