Hart House, Historic house in Taylor's Bridge, Delaware.

Hart House is a brick residence with three bays and a low-pitched gable roof that rises two and a half stories. The building extends just one room deep and sits on grounds covering about one acre.

The house was built in 1747 and quickly became caught up in an armed conflict during the War of Jenkins' Ear when Spanish raiders attacked the site. This early military encounter became a defining moment in the building's colonial-era history.

The home reflects how people in the mid-1700s chose to build and live in this region. Its style and materials show the everyday construction methods and building habits of residents from that era.

The property is managed by Delaware Wild Lands, where staff can share information about the site and its history. To arrange a visit, contact the Delaware state preservation office for details about access and available times.

The house was thrust into an international conflict just after its completion when Spanish raiders attacked the site in 1747. This assault was part of a larger maritime dispute between European powers, making this quiet location an unexpected witness to colonial turmoil.
