Col. Gustavus A. Palmer House

The Col. Gustavus A. Palmer House is a Greek Revival residence in Crystal Lake with a two-story front section and a one-and-a-half-story rear addition. The brick structure features numerous windows that bring light throughout the building, creating distinct sections for different purposes.

The house was built in 1858 by builder Andrew Jackson Simon for Colonel Gustavus Palmer, who had received land from the government in recognition of his military service. This connection to the nation's westward expansion shaped the property's place in Crystal Lake's early growth.
