Kennekuk Cove County Park spans 3,000 acres of land, featuring woodlands, open fields, wetlands, and the 170-acre Lake Mingo for outdoor recreation.
Established in 1974, the park contains two historical burial grounds, the Dodson Cemetery and Lorrence Pioneer Cemetery, preserving local heritage within its boundaries.
The visitor center displays a natural history museum with a 1000-gallon aquarium and exhibits about Native American culture of the region.
The park provides facilities for hunting, fishing, hiking trails, and rental buildings for gatherings, with lake decals required for accessing Lake Mingo.
Three Illinois Nature Preserves exist within the park: Windfall Prairie, Horseshoe Bottoms, and Fairchild Cemetery, protecting native tall grass prairie ecosystems.
