Utica Parks and Parkway Historic District, Urban park system and historic district in Utica, United States.
Utica Parks and Parkway Historic District is a park system with four main elements: Memorial Parkway and three large parks - Roscoe Conkling Park, F.T. Proctor Park, and T.R. Proctor Park connected by landscaped roads. The parks contain recreational facilities including the Utica Zoo, Valley View Golf Course, tennis courts, baseball fields, and a recreation center.
The system was designed between 1908 and 1914 by the Olmsted Brothers Landscape Associates, a renowned landscape architecture firm. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
The Memorial Parkway displays monuments honoring Vice President James Schoolcraft Sherman and military veterans along its grassy center section. These memorials shape how visitors experience and understand the space today.
The entire district is easily accessible and invites visitors to explore multiple locations in one visit. The gentle landscaped pathways connect the parks together and make navigation straightforward.
Several structures were built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration and complement the original design. These buildings represent an important chapter in American history.
