Utica Zoo, Zoo in Utica, United States.
Utica Zoo is a zoo set within Roscoe Conkling Park in Utica, New York, with both indoor and outdoor enclosures for a wide range of animals. Walking paths run through the grounds and connect to a dedicated children's area.
The zoo opened in 1914 with just three fallow deer, making it one of the earliest zoos in New York State. From 1964 onward, the Utica Zoological Society took over its management and steadily expanded the collection.
The zoo draws school groups and families from across the region, who come to watch animals from different parts of the world. The children's area in particular lets younger visitors get close to some of the animals.
The flat terrain and clearly marked paths make it easy to get around on foot, and most visitors cover the whole site in about an hour and a half. Weekday visits tend to be quieter than weekends.
The grounds are home to a metal watering can standing about 15 feet (4.7 m) tall, installed in 2000, which catches many visitors off guard. It has become a favorite photo spot even though it has nothing to do with the animals.
