Mount Jo, Mountain summit in Adirondack Mountains, New York, US.
Mount Jo is a summit in the Adirondack Mountains reaching approximately 2,876 feet in elevation. A loop trail of about 2.5 miles winds through forested areas and across rocky sections to reach the peak.
The mountain was named in 1877 by Henry Van Hovenberg after his fiancee Josephine Schofield. She passed away before their planned wedding could take place.
The summit has long been a destination for hikers seeking to experience the natural landscape of the Adirondacks. Today, visitors use the mountain to connect with the forests and rock formations while learning about conservation efforts in this mountain region.
The hiking trail begins at the Adirondack Loj parking area and offers two options: a steeper direct route or a more gradual ascent. Both paths reliably reach the summit, allowing hikers to choose based on their fitness level and preference.
From the summit, visitors can observe Heart Lake and several other Adirondack peaks, including Mount Marcy, the state's highest mountain. This view across the surrounding peaks rewards the climb for many visitors.
