Garrett Jacobs Mansion, Historic mansion in Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, United States.

The Garrett-Jacobs Mansion is a large private residence on Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore, formed by merging several neighboring townhouses into a single property. It spans multiple floors and features marble finishes, carved woodwork, and stained glass windows throughout its many rooms.

In the 1880s, railroad magnate Robert Garrett bought neighboring properties and had them combined into a single residence. Two prominent architects worked on the project over several decades, gradually transforming the original townhouses into the home seen today.

The mansion was once the social center of Baltimore's upper class, where art collectors and industrialists gathered to display their wealth. The richly decorated rooms still reflect the taste of that wealthy circle and how they chose to present themselves to guests.

The mansion stands in central Baltimore at Mount Vernon Place and can be reached on foot from several points in the city center. Visiting the different floors requires climbing stairs, so comfortable shoes are a good idea.

A Tiffany glass dome sits above the spiral staircase and casts colored light down through several floors. This type of dome was very rare in private homes of that period, making this corner of the building one of the most talked-about details among visitors.
