Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association Building
Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association Building, Cultural community center in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association Building is a three-story structure from the 1930s that blends Moorish Revival architecture with distinctive Flemish bond brickwork. Jewish symbols, including the Star of David, are woven into the exterior's decorative elements.
This structure was built in 1930 as a bridge between two separate Jewish communities in Baltimore. Its location was deliberately chosen to sit between the German Jewish neighborhoods uptown and the Eastern European Jewish communities in East Baltimore.
This building served as a gathering place where Jewish residents of Baltimore came together for social events and learning. The space brought people from different neighborhoods into one location to share community life.
The building sits on Monument Street in Baltimore and is easy to find near other historic locations in the downtown area. You can view the exterior freely at any time to see the architectural details up close.
The building was designed specifically to bring together Baltimore's two main Jewish population groups who typically lived in separate parts of the city. This intentional mixing made it a rare meeting ground for both communities.
