Washington Rock State Park

Washington Rock State Park extends across 52 acres of woodland on the first Watchung Mountain, offering a 30-mile panoramic view toward New York City.

During the American Revolution in 1777, General George Washington positioned his forces at this location to monitor British troop movements under General William Howe.

The park stands as a permanent memorial to the strategic military decisions made during the American Revolution, connecting present generations to this pivotal period.

The park provides designated walking trails, picnic areas near the outlook, and requires special permits for organized events submitted 90 days in advance.

From its elevation of 538 feet above sea level, visitors can observe the eastern plains of New Jersey stretching across three different counties.
