Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Concert hall in Mount Vernon, Baltimore, United States.
The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall is a concert venue in the Mount Vernon neighborhood with approximately 2,400 seats. The building features an oval design with curved walls that rise from the floor to the ceiling throughout the entire structure.
Construction began in 1978 following a proposal from conductor Sergiu Comissiona and executive director Joseph Leavitt to create a dedicated space for the orchestra. The project addressed the need for a modern home for the city's main musical institution.
The local orchestra performs a mix of classical and contemporary works here throughout the year. Visitors experience the musical life of Baltimore directly when attending performances in this space.
The venue is located on Cathedral Street and can be easily reached by light rail transit. Inside the building you will also find the John Gidwitz Recital Hall, which hosts smaller performances.
The acoustic design was carefully engineered to eliminate flat surfaces throughout the interior. These curved surfaces help distribute sound evenly across the entire room for optimal listening.
