General Electric Everett Plant, Industrial manufacturing plant in Everett, Massachusetts
The General Electric Everett Plant was an industrial facility stretching across 43 acres along the Malden River with multiple buildings for aircraft engine manufacturing. The site included ten smaller structures and one large production hall where aerospace components were assembled and tested.
The facility opened in 1941 as Air Force Plant 28, initially built to support military aircraft production during World War Two. Operations continued through the Cold War and beyond until the plant closed in the late 1980s.
The manufacturing facility represented industrial development in Massachusetts, employing numerous workers who contributed to both military and commercial aviation sectors.
The site is no longer operational and not open to the public today. Production activities were transferred to other General Electric locations following the closure, including the nearby facility in Lynn.
The plant became known for producing several landmark jet engine designs including the CF6, CFM56, T700, F404, and F101 models. These engines powered both civilian airliners and military helicopters used globally for decades.
