The Cedars

The Cedars is a two-story brick residence in Greenwood featuring the architectural details typical of its period. The structure has paired chimneys on the gable ends, a front porch topped with a pediment, and a full basement accessible from ground level.

The house was built between 1850 and 1860 and served many different purposes throughout its life. It functioned as a residence, a school for boys, a hospital during the Civil War, a factory operation, and later as a gambling establishment.

The house displays Greek Revival design elements that were popular among Virginia homeowners in the 19th century. These architectural choices show how wealthy families wanted their homes to look and what they valued in their surroundings.

The property occupies around 10 acres of land in western Albemarle County along U.S. Route 250. Access is straightforward via the main highway west of Interstate 64.
